mukluks

hello friends it is finals week which is awesome for my life in every way but all. oh yes, i mean none.

ok so to start off, last time i forgot to mention that the guy who lives next door to me who in my head is my mortal enemy because he keeps me up every night with his really bad techno music and bullshit like that, well he is probably my mortal enemy in real life too. how good! ok well maybe not. but the point is when corrie was here we kinda stole his mattress (YO why would you leave your mattress in the hall?? thats just ASKING for trouble). and uh then he started banging on everyone's door at 2am and we were like oh shit oh shit so then when we thought the coast was clear we were dragging it out to the hall and then corrie disappeared oh guess why? OH HEY yah he appeared and then it was just me in the hallway clutching his mattress. so after i kinda was like oh ya.. is this yours? OKAY. and i just dropped it and ran back into my room. oh shit. so that's not awkward or anything. OH MAN wait so further story on this awkwardness, this past weekend iris was here and we were you know like sleeping and shit, and freaking boy next door just walks in my room, stands in the doorway for like 10 seconds and sneezes. then he turns on the light and i'm like uh... you're in my room. and he was just like, oh. and he left. wtf. i'm never forgetting to lock my door again.

okay also last time i forgot to mention we went to the scottish parliament and MAN IT WAS SO COOL!! like it was exactly like south park. not kidding. someone would say something and then the whole chamber would start banging on their desk and shouting and it was just like RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE. it was so great! at one point someone said something extra sassy and not kidding, everyone was just like, OHHHHHHH!!!!!! and these people run scotland. awesome.

uh okay so, this past month:

susan came!! with her lovely friend carrie! delightful times! we went to a ceilidh and that was so so so much fun man i love those things, freaking scottish folk dancing. umm yes that was very good. and we did other things like, walk around edi, i dont know, all the touristy shit. we ate at this italian buffet place that wasnt very good but we got there like 20 minutes before lunch closed so they were like you should just wait for dinner but yo dinner was much more expensive so we were like no we'll take the 20 minutes and oh man i think we each ate 3 plates of food and thomas ate like, 5. he is a machine. ok so overall the weekend gets two thumbs up.

um blah blah usual stuff. okay then there was the football world cup and scotland was in the semi finals against italy and of course they lost in a 'glorious failure' and it was just so freaking scottish. and the one time they scored everyone in the pub shit a brick and started flinging beer around like confetti and so that day i learned that beer works just as well as mousse in hair. good to know!

ok and katy loebe came and i enjoy her greatly so that was wonderful. she was also here for dave's flatmate's bday party in which all us americans came super trashed and were in general just a big shit show. and all the brits were sober so it was really hilarious, i mean, for me. but appparently after we left THEY all got wrecked and were even worse but goddamnit, terrible timing i say. oh yes and i discovered the most wonderful earring place in the world. surprise!

um okay and iris was here this past weekend and that was lovely and OH MAN so we went to the rosslyn chapel-not kidding, best building in the whole world. place is SO BOMB. it has the most amazing, intricate masonry i've ever behld. every inch is just so detailed, and they do something different in each spot. even the ceiling and outside is amazing and beautifully carved. plus, the holy grail is probably underneath it. OOH and i stood on the spot where two rose lines - like these holy lines that run across the world - intersect and man how awesome am i. oh and it was my bday! i'm twenty now. which means that i can't do anything more than i already could. oh and some guy informed me i'm actually twenty-teen. which i like better, so i might use that instead. kiki almost got in a fight at a club, but ugh someone stopped them. personally i think we could've easily won. not that i'm advocating fighting. but i'm just saying.

okay so i have a swedish final on monday and two papers i need to finish by tuesday. carrie goose is coming here on tuesday and then on thursday morning we leave for our EUROPTRIP AHHHH. let me explain this.

dec 6-10 --> dublin
dec 10-14 --> amsterdam
dec 14-18 --> barcelona
dec 18--> edinburgh
dec 19--> los angeles

CORRECT. i will be at lax on dec 19. now listen pomona people-- i will be at pomona dec 20. dont you dare leave without seeing me. ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE GOING ABROAD NEXT TERM!!!

oh and on tuesday night i am singing/doing a ceremony for sankta lucia, aka sweden's most baller holiday. YES. and on wednesday we are going ice skating at the german market. wheeeee i love xmas and the fact that i am like a polar bear now in regards to coldness.

ok that is all i seriously need to go back to writing. but you guys are cool and this is my last blog because next time i sit down to write this i'll be like oh wait i'm in california and then i will go play with someone. thank you for reading me.

oh and also if you go to
http://www.flickr.com/photos/26679882@N00/
you can see pictures i put up for my mama, but i guess you can look at them too.

and i bought mukluks. i like them and i am wearing them AS WE SPEAK.

addendum to anti-title 1

wait the best part of oxford was plotting to get out of ians house. the first time, saturday morning, it was just carrie and i in ians room and he was not there so we had to sneak out on our own and luckily the lady left and rhett helped us but let me tell you we were so prepared to climb down the drain. and the second time was sunday morning and that time it was me carrie morgan and ian all in ians room, and that was a bit more difficult. we schemed for maybe an hour with plans such as, all three of us dressing as ian and pretending to be a long version of him, climbing out the window/drain, various distractions such as pushing ian down the stairs and running out, cutting off his fingers, injuries in general, cutting off rhetts finger as well (which he never found out about that we were planning to do, creepy), and other things. finally, i think we basically just ended up sneaking out while ian went outside to pretend to talk on the phone. again, a relatively easy solution after much much scheming and worrying. altogether, it was very excellent except that the night before ian wouldnt give us the duvet and we had to fight him and all i got out of it were two bruises. suck.

anti-title 1

hello, now that it is november 1 (for fifteen more minutes, shite) and exactly one month later, i can blog because obviously it seems i can only blog once a month wtf i suck at life, sorry friendz. but let me tell you i have been a busy bee.

okay!! where to begin!??! i'm not sure, i can't remember that far back. ok well, first weekend of october, we were visited by three HIGHLY delightful creatures from oxford, aka ian kwok, rhett, and CARRIE GUSS. that is correct. it was glooorious!!!! let me tell you, it was SO GREAT. we did many things, like do many substances and love each other a lot. and we walked around edi which was adorable and i feel like sunday we did something else wait i can't remember shite. WAIT YES I DO so on sunday carrie and i went to the andy warhol exhibit and it was so good!! very very delightful and now there is a certain print i simply must have, it was for his children's exhibit. i will find it and you will all be jealous because it is THAT GREAT. (true story). and then carrie and i had to try to plan how to hide her when the housekeeper came because she is notsupposed to be here so we woke up early and sat panicking and tried to figure out how to hide her. uh turns out that was not a problem. freaking theme of my life. ok so yes then they left.

BUT THEN!!! (prepare yourself) CORRIE BUCK CAME!!! it is true!!! my best friend since 1st grade!! and that was SO WONDERFUL. and yes that was great we did many great things like go to the royal botanical gardens (so good), wherein bill got lost in narnia. very very great. and then we went to a symphony thing and that was amazing and ben greenberg was very ridiculous and also had a literal bushel of apples. wtf. and then corrie got to go on one of our pomona day trips, and we saw the linlithgow castle, the falkirk wheel + roman ruins, and sterling/its castle not really we didnt get inside but thats cool. so that was excellent! and then wait i think we saw a movie, yes? im not sure. wait i think we did and i think i hated it. but thats okay bcz that weekend was very wonderful and i miss it. OHHHHHHHH.

ok and then the weekend after THAT, i went to the isle of skye, which is this bombass beautiful most beautiful place in the world, i would say? YES. okay so its like, in the highlands, but not, and its an island off the west coast of scotland and shit it is just so wonderful. its this very rugged, raw beauty, and amazingly pure and clean and perfect and i would like to live there plz. and there are many sheep farms and i saw more highland cattle! so cute! seriously i went with rose and christian and the only things we all bought were things pertaining to highland cattle and homemade soap. we are great. OH WAIT so that was also awesome because we were freaking straight up ballers and we HITCH HIKED yes its true!! we missed our bus you see bcz the public transport system is rubbish there so we were like uhhh alright. and we hitchhhiked!!! actually it was hilarious bcz we asked a different bus driver how ppl hitch hike here and they told christian to stick out his leg and wave it in the street,and christian was like oh really? we just stick out our thumb and then he told christian to do both at once. so christian did. and it was awesome. and we finally got picked up and guess what? apparently uh NO that is not how you hitch hike, its really just the thumb. hahaaha now im very glad when christian insisted i did it too i refused too. i win! actually everyone won in that situation because it was so hilarious (oh wait, not christian). okso that was wonderful. wait so yes we went to the main city and that was tight and then we took a bus to this place dunvegan that was wonderful and walked through the gardens of a castle and then we realized we missed our bus but then this other bus driver who's bus was oddly expensive GAVE US A RIDE FOR FREE!! man we totally owned that day. and then we had a picnic of foodz and that was good. wait also, ridiculousness: so on the way there we were on this bus driving around the highlands (i think i saw nessie when we drove by loch ness, not kidding, mostly), there was this absurd old man (actually he was probably like 30-40, just had too many drugs) in the seat behind me. so he's like obv drunk, bcz i can smell it, and he gets all excited we're americans and he tells us this stoy about how his 'friend' tried to get into canada but then was sent back right away bcz of security. i dont buy it btw it was totally him. ok and then he and christian talk about loads of drugs for a while and the guy just keeps talking about drugs and raves and where to get them and then he starts talking about it in relation to barcelona or something and at this point christian is just nodding along with him because his scottish accent was quite thick and who can really understand that? suddenly christian realizes that for the like last 10 minutes this guy has actually been talking aboutheroin and oopsie poopsie!! not cool. ok it was also around this time that the guy kept losing control of his seltzer water, which at one point actually dropped to the ground, then proceeded to bounce straight up and splash him in the face all over. of course the guy is completely unphased and continues to ramble on. also he spilled a lot of white pepper everywhere. it was very bizarre. sorry i've grown tired of this subject, and i just realized it makes no sense to anyone else. MOVING ON.

ok soo this past weekend i went to oxford and that was glory. so much glory!! morgan and her two friends came too and so did andrea with me from edi. and we had much fun and did cool things like: see super furry animals (amaaazing concert), watch short movies or pretend to but actually sleep, get very very drunk, yikes,off many alcohols and no dinner oopsie poopsie, and GO TO LONDON. that is right i went to london with goose and morgan and it was awesome and i love it and we saw hitler wearing a tutu chainsmoking while watching children on a carousel that we also happened to be on. what a LOVELY day. and then i missed my flight back home and had to reschedule and wait i dont want to talk about it actually bcz that was the worst day i've had in like i dont know a very long time.

awesomely enough, i also had many papers due during that weekend, which made the whole thing very hectic. luckily im a baller and YES i did finish them all, thank you. ok and now i feel this is very long and i dont feel like typing anymore so you must be content with this. but i am doing well and ok wait tell me your answer: if you could go to one place, where would you go? SWEDEN or PARIS. plz write and tell me kthanks.

OK I LOVE YOU ALL AND ETC. <3

why are titles necessary? i refuse to continue making titles.

okay sorry i suck at blogging. i seriously thought i'd be a lot better at this for some reason, but at the same time, i feel three in uhhh a month a half is pretty good, YES??? YES!!! sorta. HOKAY, so, recap:

uhhh glasgow was pretty bomb... i admit, i totally was expecting like, people to run out and cut me just because people kept being like oh ya, glasgow is cool but... it's a lot TOUGHER. you know, a little more ROUGH. blah blah blah "glaswegian smile, in which people cut your mouth at the sides", etc. you know, so basically i came expecting some exciting times. but no, we just looked at some old cathedral and went to the glasgow museum. i mean, it was excellent, and i plan to go back and shop, but there was no cutting of any bitches, unfortch.

uhhh so tuesday sept 18, classes started, and so i had ASIA AND AFRICA 2, and SWEEEEDISH!! (SVENSKA! JAG TALAR EN LITET SVENSKA NU!) um, i was late to both because i couldnt find where the classes were being held, mostly because i am a retard. whatever, thats not awkward or anything. and YO! my asia and africa class is a lecture class!! with ONE HUNDRED PEOPLE!!! its absurd. i've never had a largeass lecture class like that before. so thats.. new. and seriously, i struggle so much just to figure out what the lecturers are SAYING, much less like, take in what theyre talking about. ridic. um, my other class, internet and society, meets on thursdays, and uhhh its pretty lame, im pretty sure i dislike it, but the people are excellent, and maybe once we stop doing lameass 'technology theory' or whatever, it'll get bomb. TIME SHALL TELL!! but YEA OKAY SO ON TUESDAY?? AFTER CLASS? i went to the RUGBY WORLD CUP!!! YES I DID!!!! it was scotland v. romania, and obvvv scotland won. haha it was so great!!! and there were lovely scottish blokes sitting next to us who kept making fun of me and rose bcz we had some angsty moments and got pretty drunk (rose got trashed, actually) off of, wine? yes, wine. and rose just kept being like, GOOO SCOOOTLAND! YA, RUGBY!! but in this really bellig tone. it was so great! she is a good one.

ummm ok, various clubs, pubs, etc. moving on. last saturday our director, tom (cuuutie old scottish man) took us to a play which was a 'thriller!'. it was all modern though and there were heavy accents, so it took me awhile to get into it and actually figure out what was going on and the problem with modern stuff is like, they'll be all disjointed or absurd but its like, supposed to be like that?? and im kind of like well, yo, whats going on? OH IM SORRY, APPARENTLY THATS THE POINT. TO CONFUSE ME. so ya. but it was cool. and i got to wear my sassy new metallic gold tights, so huzzah! um, wait, even better, on sunday... i went to another thriller... that is, THRILLER, LIVE!!!! why yes!! it IS music and dance tribute to the life and works of michael jackson!!! HOW ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL!, you say. i know, i knooow. it was amazing. so i went with blade (bill slade), who is an excellent creature, and unbelievably enough, loves the king of pop EVEN MORE THAN ME!!?! true story! so it was absolutely lovely, and they did all these songs from like, jackson 5 era, on. SO GOOD!!! and people around us were trashed and kept getting up and to try to dance and then would get yelled at by the ushers, but by the end EVERYONE was standing up and dancing and they could not stop us!! and it was SO GREAT!! seriously, i was highly delighted.

umm, okay, so classes continued, whatever. some of us did this like, pub quiz? in hopes of winning 35 quid, but we got 12th out of like, 25, place. damnit. um, im sorry, i was unaware the questions would be about BRITAIN. WTF. so yah, we need to study more. but um, this past friday was GREAT!! about 5 of us went to see this amaaazing orchestra thing called 'the emperor and the firebird', and it was some new modern composers world premier, and then stravinsky, and then beethoven, and emanual ax (something like, best piano player or something? most prominent? i dont know.) did some sassy playing of his own at the end. AND WE WERE SO STONED!! so obv it was incredible, bcz you can SEEEE the magic of the music and yes i was so pleased. haha and there was no one there under the age of like, 65, except us, so they couldnt stand up to applaud but instead decided to just applaud for 3 times the normal length. and the lady to my left kept leaning on my shoulder, and then would jerk up, then 2 minutes later slowly begin to lower herself to my should again. repeat this over the course of 2 hours. thank god i was high. and the lady to my right was dead asleep and occasionally would snore. wtf. but yes, sooo great.

um, so this past saturday, life was glorious, because we went to the HIGHLANDS. yes, the HIGHLANDS. LIKE HIGHLANDERS. how great!!!!! and we passed like, the stirling castle on the way and saw the castle thats in monty python on the way back wheee!!! but yes so we went to comrie and then hiked up some mountain thing and looked at some monument and then it was like oooh look at all the delightful lowlands under us yay! and then we went a little further north and saw the loch earl and these rapids that silly scottish people call falls of something something, because they dont really know what falls are, you see. and then the BEST PART IS!! we saw a highlander 'coo'!!!! aka cow. for those not in the know. and his name was hamish and i love him so much omg. wait i will post a picture, so you can all love him too.

omg dont you want to love him forever? yes you sure do!!! ok and then the day ended perfectly with watching the AMAZING movie, BREAKIN'! which is fab, and obv a precursor to my fav movie, you got served. its fab. everyone should watch it.um, it would have been a BETTER night if some tool fresher boys hadnt pulled the fire alarm in the middle of the movie. assholes. i might cut a fresher before the term ends, and i dont even know if i'd regret that. but uh, yes, on that note, i found a bible study to join for my house. how great!! hahah. hmmm. okay other things: goose, kwok, and rhett are coming hurrr next week!! how wonderful!!! and soon corrie buck will be here!!! glory!!!! and that is it and now i must go do my svenska homework. also, if you all have not gotten skype yet to talk to me you suck and i probably dont want to talk to you anyways. HA HOW DOES IT FEEL NOW?!?!?!

also, i scared a boy from switzerland when talking to chanda in front of him and in reference to kiki stealing my camera, i said 'i'm seriously going to cut that bitch!'. apparently, that ISNT something you commonly hear here. whatever. also, in agreeance with morgans blog, the lack of pedestrian rights here has gotten me nearly killed/aggressively honked at, COUNTLESS times. its painful. does not help that they drive the wrong way. shite. ok loves, and im going to be making a flickr for scotland pics soon, so STAY TUNED.

love!!!

rain?

so today is the first full day of rain. before this, i've only experienced the occassional sprinkling, which never really lasted very long. but today is the first day i've woken up to rain with no foreseeable end in sight. obviously, it's far from the last time this will happen, but rather the first of maaaaany. good thing i bought a badass red tartan umbrella.

well, freshers week is just about over, and maybe i sound lame, but thank god. i am far too old/lame for this. so last week on uhh saturday all the freshers moved in (and let me tell you, these british girls are far too sassy, and are even all dressed up just for breakfast!!). that would make this my THIRD year of living with freshmen. i'm not entirely pleased with this, for reasons that i am.... a third year. did i mention that in scotland, high schools are 3 years, so that makes some of these freshers... 17. a few are even 16. what is this?!?! i mean, luckily i'm young, and only 19 (unlike everyone else from pomona who is 20/21), but still... the age/mental difference is very apparent. it's just kind of awkward, because i definitely lack the freshmen mentality, as well as the urge to go out and party/drink every night, which the freshers here are VERY good at. actually, it seems like every uni student is good at it. when i was reading descriptions for all the societies and sports clubs, and all of them we work on on the court AND PARTY HARDER OFF AHHHH!!!! or if they're a society, they're all sponsored by some pub and get mad drinks. it is crazy.

anyways, i'm still debating whether i should join the badminton club, bcz they all look really hardcore, plus it costs money, which i'm highly against. but i signed up for a lot of societies, so hopefully i'll stick with at least a few of them. i went to the women of the world (basically, like the women's union) meeting, which is cool. i hope to continue with that. i also signed up for a lot of like, environmental and political societies. haha and i signed up for the japanese society!! but it makes me nervous because i think about 80% of them are white. meaning, not japanese. so that's weird. i also signed up for the socialist club (???). uhhh, i don't want to talk about it. i kind of want to join the chocolate society or wine society, but both of them cost money, so i'm still debating that. but ya, uni offers SO many more societies than pomona, it is sad. so it's really awesome having the opportunity to choose from hundreds of societies, but at the same time, the fair was mad overwhelming.

tomorrow i go to glasgow for the afternoon, which i'm excited about. i heard it's so much more badass than edi. how excellent. and on tuesday i'm going to the rugby world cup, bcz it's in edinburgh (scotland v. romania! wheee!!). also, nerd alert, i'm very excited for classes to start on tuesday. there is just nothing to do during the day, which is one of the reasons i've been going to the gym everyday. the other reason is that the gym here is AWESOME!!!!! every machine has its own tv. have i mentioned this before? i dont care. i'll say it again. i love the gym here. and pomona paid for our passes, which is excellent.

so i regret not opting to live in a flat, for reasons mentioned earlier: freshers. i have actually not been able to sleep through the night since they moved in. assholes are SO FREAKING LOUD. they come back from wherever at like, 5am, and just chill in the hall and talk really loudly and whatnot, RIGHT OUTSIDE MY DOOR. seriously, tuesday night 5am, freaking boys in the room next to me, put on BEACH BOYS of all things, and i can just hear like 7 of them singing loudly that surfing song. really? really?? so they continued to party for like an hour longer, until someone finally yelled at them. really doesn't help the walls are paper thin here. if it weren't for the single, it's possible i would start cutting all of them. i mean, there are some very excellent creatures here, and i like a lot of the people, i just kind of want to be around people my age. so, like i said, i'm really excited for classes. and hopefully once this week is over, everyone will calm down. and i dont want to sound like i hate it or anything, because i still love it here a lot and am having fun. i just kinda wish i didn't live in a freshmen dorm. but seriously i have found all the delicious cheap food places, and that is great, bcz oooh, dorm food here makes frank dining hall look like gourmet delishness. ok, next time, hopefully i'll be rambling about how awesome my classes are/awesome the things i'm doing this week are. wheee!!

holla, scotland

reasons why scotland is bomb
  1. really, really beautiful
  2. amazing architecture
  3. i am in LOVE with every single accent here
  4. delicious cheap panini sandwhiches (like, 2 quid)
  5. (mostly) excellent pomona people
  6. so far pretty excellent weather, as in hasn't really rained, i've seen the sun a few times, and i only need a light jacket
  7. pubs are delightful
  8. really cool vintage shops (haha, i finally got a coat)
  9. amazing places to see
  10. just being in europe, and knowing i can go anywhere
reasons scotland is lame
  1. mad expensive: everything costs the same, but pounds are uh, TWICE a dollar. what the hell, american economy. stop ruining my life.
  2. knowing that this weather is considered really great, and it's only going to get worse
  3. that awkward little thing called 'anti-americanism'
  4. right now there are only weird french teens and grownups for conferences at uni, so thats kind of awk
  5. classes technically don't start until sept 14, but we started class today because pomona thinks that we wont be challenged enough, or whatever.
  6. the fact that i didn't get internet until TODAY. as in one week after i got here basically.
  7. random stuff is really expensive, like hangars and water.
  8. after my first choice for my sociology course got canceled, i get here and they cancel my second choice. so i'm kind of screwed right now, but hopefully the director will sort it out tomorrow.
  9. water pressure in general is awful
  10. my mattress is lumpy?
ok well i wanted to give a list of ten for pros and cons, but in all honesty there are far more pros and they totally outweigh the cons. like, yesterday, we went to leith walked around anstruther and ate at this super famous/delicious fish and chips place, and then walked this hike up the coast to crail, which is so beautiful. well all of it was so beautiful. and people are so friendly and just start talking to you everywhere you go. then we went to st. andrews which i'm definitely going back to because we only got an hour and my camera died and it's just so incredibly beautiful there. i did get some good pictures of the cathedral and castle ruins though.

other than that, it's just been a lot of walking around edinburgh and trying to get acclimated to the city and how to get places, and buying everything i didn't bring, which was everything. i think i'm done with essentials now though, i just need to get some more warm clothing, but i have some time before that's necessary. i think some of us are going to try to go to amsterdam before classes start, which would be so tight. and we're talking about oktoberfest, and when's best to go. basically, everything here is just so much more beautiful, but then you pay for it with prices, so i guess it evens out? something random: so mercedes benzes are everywhere, but they're like, the dumpster truck, the taxi, the shuttle, etc. it's hilarious. i've seen only a few 'nice' benzes. i've only seen one american car (ford), but a ton of hondas, acuras, vw, jags, etc. edi had its own version of 4th of july last night, where they have an orchestra and set off fireworks at the castle, and everyone in the country comes out for it as it marks the end of the festival. it was funny, because they had an 'american' theme for the music this year, and one of the announcers was like, oh, i hope that american music goes well with fireworks. back to you dingo dave. haha, i LOVE scottish people. also, i was at this pub/club a couple nights ago called frankensteins, and it is amazing. first of all, on mondays and wednesdays its a rocky horror theme, but also, they only play like, early 90s music, so i heard a lot of like, hanson, backstreet boys, etc. i was obviously really pleased. ok, to end it, scotland has SUUCH tight history, and it's amazing being in a place with buildings from like, the 16th century and whatnot, and i think i want to stay here forever, or move back.

cheers!! and i love you all and i miss everyone very much and life was hard without internet but yes i have it now so plz skype me (just search kristin.fukushima@pomona.edu), im me (fookaroo8), or email me at above address. love!!!
